Inside Maduro’s Venezuela: The Bus Driver
Who Built a Dictatorship
This is the story of a man who never gives up. A man who has regained the place given to him after the Bolivarian Revolution had given him: at the helm of Venezuela, sitting on the world’s largest oil reserves, a man clinging to his destiny: to lead Venezuela’s socialist revolution… whatever the cost.
Yet nothing has ever been simple for Nicolas Maduro. His entire career has been made up of great victories and bitter failures. From the very bottom of the social ladder, this bus driver has risen to the pinnacle of power.
He knew the years of opulence, when his country was the richest in Latin America, and he participated in its downfall. His authoritarianism, ideology and years of poor economic choices precipitated the ruin of the country he has ruled with an iron fist for nine years.
Strangled by international sanctions, he was left for dead. This time, it was certain, he wouldn’t get away with it. Anyone else would have given up, abandoned power in the face of public outrage. He chose blind repression. He was the last man, no doubt, to still believe in his lucky star… until an incredible twist of fate, combined with his political acumen, put him back at the center of the world stage.
The war in Ukraine has profoundly shaken international geopolitical stakes. The world is now in desperate need of what lies beneath Venezuela’s surface. Black gold could put the man who was previously the pariah of the international community back on the throne.

President Trump on U.S. Airstrikes Against Venezuela
Jan. 3, 2026
Is Trump now President… of Venezuela?
In the dead of night, President Trump sent US forces into the Venezuelan capital Caracas and – after bombs and explosions – emerged with its kidnapped head of state, Nicolas Maduro and his wife. Trump claims they are extradited narco traffickers.
In a press conference to mark the operation, Trump revealed that America is “going to run” the Latin American petro state, and oil does appear to be at the centre of his motivations for striking. US oil companies, he announced, will be sent into Venezuela to fix its broken infrastructure and start making the county money – and presumably make America money too. He cited the Monroe Doctrine – now the ‘Donroe Doctrine’ – that sees America seizing assets of states it chooses and intervening where it pleases in the western hemisphere.
What will the world do now? Will Russia and China feel newly emboldened? Will the UK and the EU tell Trump what they really think? What about that promise of America First – “no more foreign wars” – is that now dead as a dodo? And how will that impact Trump’s political fortunes at home?

What’s Next in Trump’s War on Venezuela?
Democracy Now! discusses the attack on Venezuela with two Venezuelan American scholars: Alejandro Velasco, an associate history professor at New York University, and Miguel Tinker Salas, emeritus professor of history at Pomona College.

Velasco also comments on Marco Rubio, a central figure in the U.S. campaign against Venezuela, who may have another country as his ultimate target. “Rubio’s primary interest in the region is not Venezuela, it’s not Colombia, it’s not Mexico — it’s Cuba,” says Velasco.

ICE’s Killing Spree Is Just Getting Started
Rania Khalek and Eugene Puryear discuss Wednesday’s fatal shooting of Renee Nicole Good, a 37-year-old mother of three, by an ICE agent in Minneapolis. Video of the incident shows she was attempting to drive away and posed no obvious threat when an agent began shooting, though Trump administration officials claim it was self-defense.
Khalek says ICE has become “Trump’s personal militia,” arguing that anyone who opposes right-wing policies is treated as a “killable, domestic terrorist.” The killing came just one day after 2,000 ICE agents flooded Minneapolis in what the Department of Homeland Security called the “largest immigration operation ever.”
Politics
No One Is Safe
We’re All “Domestic Terrorists” Now
The killing of Renee Nicole Good in Minneapolis, and Donald Trump’s and Kristi Noem’s despicable lies about it, show that we’re all living at the whim of the administration’s masked, trigger-happy goons.

Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem on Thursday
“It was an act of domestic terrorism,” Kristi Noem declared, following Wednesday’s killing of Renee Nicole Good, a 37-year-old mother of three, by an ICE agent in a residential neighborhood of Minneapolis. With a straight face and no evident sense of shame, the head of Homeland Security added, “This goes to show the assaults that our ICE officers and law enforcement are under every single day.” During the same press conference, she assured the public that “anyone who is a citizen of this country or is here legally, has nothing to fear.”
It’s as keen an example of the emperor having no clothes as you’ll find: Though the video of Good’s killing shows no reasonable justification for lethal force, Noem, President Trump, and their MAGA acolytes are telling us that Good was not a victim but another “terrorist” who was somehow a threat to the American people. A year into Trump’s second term, we are used to him and his administration applying that label to migrants and antifa and journalists and even some Democrats. But now, it seems, all of us are potential terrorists, at risk of being gunned down by Trump and Noem’s trigger-happy goons.
The president first experimented with an expansive definition of who qualifies as a domestic terrorist during his first term. In 2017, in an effort that mirrored the COINTELPRO surveillance of civil rights leaders under J. Edgar Hoover, the FBI created a designation of “Black Identity Extremists” that sought to conflate the shootings of police officers with an underground Black revolutionary movement connected to Black Lives Matter. Amid the protests over George Floyd’s murder by police officer Derek Chauvin, Trump lashed out at antifa, tweeting that he would designate the group a domestic terror organization. He made good on that threat this past September, issuing an executive order that declared, “Individuals associated with and acting on behalf of Antifa further coordinate with other organizations and entities for the purpose of spreading, fomenting, and advancing political violence and suppressing lawful political speech.”
Three days later, he issued National Security Presidential Memorandum 7, titled “Countering Domestic Terrorism and Organized Political Violence,” which reads like something out of the White Christian Persecution Fantasy Handbook. It cited violence and threats against right-wing figures, including himself, and claimed, “Common threads animating this violent conduct include anti-Americanism, anti-capitalism, and anti-Christianity; support for the overthrow of the United States Government; extremism on migration, race, and gender; and hostility towards those who hold traditional American views on family, religion, and morality.” Of course, it ignored overwhelming evidence that right-wing extremism has historically been responsible for considerably more violence than left-wing extremism. In fact, just a week prior, the Justice Department removed from its website a study that demonstrated exactly that.
The net was also cast wide for groups or individuals who might be considered “domestic terrorists” by this metric. It includes “organized structures, networks, entities, organizations, funding sources, and predicate actions behind them,” all of which will be subject to investigation. The order charges the National Joint Terrorism Task Force with investigating any person or group deemed responsible, in whole or part, for “radicalizing” people.
Bondi followed up the order with a memo that makes clear she will consider rioting or looting to be domestic terrorism, and as such the DOJ will slap federal charges on people in cases that previously would have been handled locally. Moreover, the memo states that doxing of law enforcement officers will be considered domestic terrorism, as will the “targeting of public officials or other political actors,” without specifying what that targeting includes. Is yelling at a public official or calling them a “fascist” targeting them? We don’t know. What about attempting to drive away from ICE because you were told to, as reportedly happened to Renee Nicole Good?
In the Oval Office before a slew of reporters, Trump stated that the killing in Minnesota was “horrible to watch.” Yet he insisted on showing it to them to prove that Good had tried to “run over” ICE agents, even though the video clearly shows that she did not. This is not the first time that the administration has used this defense for killing someone amid its immigration crackdown. In an incident in September, ICE agents shot and killed Silverio Villegas-Gonzalez, an undocumented immigrant from Mexico, claiming that he had hit an agent with his car and dragged him “a significant distance,” but videos show otherwise. In October, ICE agents became annoyed that Marimar Martinez, an American citizen, was following them and warning people in her Chicago neighborhood that agents were in the area, so they rammed her car and then shot her five times. One of the agents had screamed, “Do something, bitch!” before opening fire. That agent later boasted in texts, “I fired 5 rounds and she had 7 holes. Put that in your book boys.”
Altogether, there have been 14 people shot by ICE under Trump, including nine since September. That figure doesn’t include other people who have died at ICE’s hands or because of the aggressive tactics the administration has been employing, like Jaime Alanis, who fell from a rooftop during a poorly executed ICE raid in July, or the 32 people who have died in ICE custody—the highest number on record—in part due to the inadequate facilities in which they’re placed.
But the administration feels no responsibility toward these people because they’re either “domestic terrorists” or “criminal illegal aliens,” as we’re told. Murdering a civilian is one thing, but murdering a “domestic terrorist” or carting “terrorists” or “gang members” away to CECOT in El Salvador—that’s a different matter. That’s why, whenever its goons gun someone down, the administration’s strategy is the same: Lie about what happened, even when faced with visual evidence that refutes its story, and declare the victim guilty by calling them a terrorist. As the administration sees it, that label justifies whatever violence it commits—even shooting an innocent protester in the face.
Later it could be you or me. But I’m encouraging people to protest nonetheless. I believe in giving ICE a hard time—to make it more difficult for them to abuse people and disrupt communities. That may have been what Good was doing. And if ICE shows up in my neighborhood and starts snatching people off the street, I will be there. I suppose that makes me a terrorist too.

We are barely a week into 2026, and already Donald Trump has toppled the president of Venezuela, threatened a NATO ally, labeled a protester killed by ICE as a “professional agitator,” and insisted his own morality is the only check on his otherwise total power.
It appears that America’s president is entering the second year of his term more aggressively, more defiantly, and more viciously. What does that mean for the US and the wider world? And when Trump dismisses legal constraints, threatens to tear up the constitution, and brands entire ethnic groups as suspicious and “garbage,” at what point does his administration become fascistic?
That question has been on the mind of Mehdi Hasan longer than most. The British former MSNBC host has launched his own media company, Zeteo, and from Washington has become a leading voice on the Left of American politics.

Searching reporters’ homes, suing
journalists and repressing citizen
dissent are well-known steps
toward autocracy
Published: January 14, 2026
The FBI search of a Washington Post reporter’s home on Jan. 14, 2026, was a rare and intimidating move by an administration focused on repressing criticism and dissent.
In its story about the search at Hannah Natanson’s home, at which FBI agents said they were searching for materials related to a federal government contractor, Washington Post reporter Perry Stein wrote that “it is highly unusual and aggressive for law enforcement to conduct a search on a reporter’s home.”
And Jameel Jaffer, director of the Knight First Amendment Institute at Columbia University, told The New York Times the raid was “intensely concerning,” and could have a chilling effect “on legitimate journalistic activity.”
Free speech and independent media play a vital role in holding governments accountable by informing the public about government wrongdoing.
This is precisely why autocrats like Russia’s Vladimir Putin have worked to silence independent media, eliminating checks on their power and extending their rule. In Russia, for example, public ignorance about Putin’s responsibility for military failures in the war on Ukraine has allowed state propaganda to shift blame to senior military officials instead.
While the United States remains institutionally far removed from countries like Russia, the Trump administration has taken troubling early steps toward autocracy by threatening – and in some cases implementing – restrictions on free speech and independent media.

A new report finds the number of people in ICE detention has nearly doubled in Trump’s first year back in office, driven by indiscriminate arrest policies that have locked up more and more people without criminal records, “an unprecedented situation for immigration detention.”
We break down the numbers with Aaron Reichlin-Melnick, a senior fellow at the American Immigration Council, which published the report. Reichlin-Melnick explains that ICE’s annual budget has approximately quintupled, even as 2025 marked the agency’s deadliest year so far.
Four more people have already died in detention in just the first two weeks of 2026. “Crucially, all of this has been slower than they wanted,” he adds. “Their hope was to have over 100,000 people in detention by today; they’ve hit 70,000.”

Trump faces off with NATO allies over Greenland
President Trump refuses to rule out invading Greenland following revelations that his aggression towards the self-governing territory is a response to being denied the Nobel Peace Prize by Norway.
We are now facing the very real possibility that the US will attack a NATO ally, putting everyone in a unique and untenable situation. Should the EU send troops to Greenland? As both a NATO member and a US neighbor Canada is faced with a serious dilemma.
Andrew argues that we have to be an ally, and that means drawing a land in the snow and showing up for Greenland. It is now clear that NATO is hanging by a thread. What will be its successor? And what should we make of Trump’s new ‘Board of Peace’ which critics believe is his attempt to undermine the United Nations?

Neuroscientist Diagnoses Trump’s Brain Damage
The mental health of the American president is critical to the future of the country – and it’s clear to even a casual observer of Donald Trump that his patterns of speech, inability to state the truth on just about any subject, and the apparent joy he gets out of watching other people suffer – indicate that something strange is going on in the way he perceives the world.
Psychiatrists are often reluctant to speculate diagnosing someone in the absence of a face-to-face clinical exam. And yet, it appears that Trump has taken several such exams – including brain scans and mental acuity tests – that he brags about, but never releases reports on. Which is why I have brought Frank George, Ph.D. onto the show today.
George holds a PhD in Psychology and Neuroscience from the University of Colorado Boulder, and was formerly the Chief of Behavioral and Biochemical Genetics at the National Institutes of Health (NIH). He’s an expert on narcissistic personality disorder and writes a popular substack that focuses on Trump’s Mental state called “The Gaslight Report” which I highly recommend you take a look at.

Where Is The Line? | Protest Song Calling
Out The Cowardly Republicans In Congress
“Where Is The Line?” is a powerful folk-rock protest song in the spirit of Leonard Cohen that directly confronts Donald Trump’s authoritarian rhetoric and the complicity of Republicans in Congress who refuse to check his power.
The song calls out the erosion of democratic norms, threats to NATO and global stability, and the dangerous consequences of unchecked executive authority, including Trump’s reckless statements about Greenland and America’s alliances.
With sharp lyrics and moral urgency, “Where Is The Line?” demands accountability, urges Congress to use its constitutional powers to stop an authoritarian slide, and challenges listeners who oppose Trump to resist fascism, defend democracy, and speak out before the damage to America becomes irreversible.
This song is for anyone who believes democracy requires courage, not silence.

At the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, this morning, a visibly exhausted president of the United States of America rambled in angry free association in a speech before the world’s leaders. At one point, speaking of North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) dignitaries, he told the audience: “Until the last few days when I told them about Iceland, they loved me. They called me daddy, right, last time. Very smart man said, ‘He’s our daddy. He’s running it.’”
He meant Greenland.
The president of the United States went on to give a virulently racist, insulting, rambling speech in which he complained that people call him a dictator but that “sometimes you need a dictator.” More than anything, though, the speech demonstrated his mental unfitness for his position. Tom Nichols of The Atlantic wrote: “No one can be watching this Davos speech and reach any conclusion but that the President of the United States is mentally disturbed and that something is deeply wrong with him. This is both embarrassing and extremely dangerous.”
Andrew Egger of The Bulwark wrote of Trump’s hostility to traditional U.S. allies today: “As long as I live, I don’t think I’ll get over this pure, dumb fact: Trump told his fans he had to blow up the liberal order because it was the only way to secure the very benefits the liberal order was already bringing us.” Egger likened this to Aesop’s fable about the greedy farmer who butchered the goose that laid golden eggs.

We speak to Greek economist Yanis Varoufakis about the United States under Donald Trump and its attempts to reshape the post-World War II international consensus.

Varoufakis comments on plans for the reoccupation of Gaza by the U.S.-led “Board of Peace,” which signed its founding charter this week; Trump’s designs on the Danish territory of Greenland; and European leaders’ ineffectual, largely symbolic resistance to Trump’s assertion of U.S. supremacy on the world stage.

As President Donald Trump formally inaugurated his so-called Board of Peace at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, on Thursday, his son-in-law Jared Kushner presented his vision of turning the Gaza Strip into an upscale seaside resort with gleaming skyscrapers and entirely new cities.
The proposal is said to require an investment of at least $25 billion, and Kushner’s presentation showed a map of the besieged territory divided into different zones. This all comes as Palestinians in Gaza struggle to survive with little food or shelter amid ongoing Israeli restrictions on aid.
“It’s hard to take these people seriously. I mean, they’re buffoonish. But the problem is that they control the largest military and economy in the world,” says Sharif Abdel Kouddous, the Middle East and North Africa editor at Drop Site News. Federal Agents Kill Another Person in Minneapolis Immigration Crackdown
By Richard Hall and Rebecca Schneid
A man was shot and killed by a Border Patrol agent in Minneapolis on Saturday morning, the second fatal shooting in just over two weeks by federal authorities in the city.
The incident follows the Jan. 7 killing of Renee Good by a federal agent less than three miles away, and comes as the city was already convulsed by mass protests calling for an end to the surge of immigration agents in the state.
The victim was named as Alex Jeffrey Pretti, a 37-year-old Minneapolis resident and intensive care unit nurse who treated veterans. His family said he was motivated to join protests after Good’s killing.
Several videos of the shooting show an altercation taking place around 9 am when a woman protester was pushed to the ground by a Border Patrol agent. When Pretti attempts to stand between the agent and the woman, the agent pepper-sprays him in the face. More agents join the fray and tackle Pretti to the ground as he is disoriented. As a group of agents restrain Pretti on the ground, one emerges from the melee with a gun, and soon after, a shot rings out, then several more in quick succession. At least 10 shots were fired in around five seconds, including several as Pretti lay motionless on the ground.

President Donald Trump responded to the shooting in a lengthy post on Truth Social that called immigration agents “patriots” and claimed they were in Minneapolis because of “massive Monetary Fraud” and “Illegal Criminals that were allowed to infiltrate the State.”
Minneapolis Police Chief Brian O’Hara said at a press conference on Saturday afternoon that Pretti had not been in trouble with the police before.
“The only interaction that we are aware of with law enforcement has been for traffic tickets and we believe he is a lawfully gun owner with a permit to carry,” O’Hara said.
The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) gave a detailed account of the shooting in a statement that was contradicted by several videos shot by bystanders at the scene. The agency said it was carrying out a “targeted operation” when an individual approached U.S. Border Patrol officers with a 9mm semi-automatic handgun, pictures of which it shared with the media. It said officers attempted to disarm the man, but he “violently resisted.”
“Fearing for his life and the lives and safety of fellow officers, an agent fired defensive shots. Medics on scene immediately delivered medical aid to the subject but was pronounced dead at the scene,” the statement continued. It added: “[T]his looks like a situation where an individual wanted to do maximum damage and massacre law enforcement.”
But several videos showing the lead-up to the fatal shooting show Pretti filming a group of Border Patrol officers with his phone in his right hand, with his left hand empty. The video shows an agent pepper-spraying Pretti in the face and, together with several other officers, dragging him to the ground. That is when the fatal shooting occurs.
Read more: Fatal ICE Shooting Sparks Scrutiny of Killings in Trump’s Immigration Crackdown
The incident is the latest in a series of shootings in which the DHS claims the victim was threatening the life of an agent, only for video evidence to later contradict the claim. After the shooting of Renee Good, the DHS accused her of “attempting to run over our law enforcement officers in an attempt to kill them—an act of domestic terrorism,” only for video evidence to show her turning her car away, and the agent positioned to the side of her vehicle when he fired the fatal shot.
Several other federal officials gave accounts of events that were similarly inaccurate to those given by DHS.
Pretti’s parents, Michael and Susan Pretti, found out about the death of their son when they were called by an Associated Press reporter. As of Saturday evening, the family had still not heard from anyone at a federal law enforcement agency about their son’s death, according to the AP.
In a statement released to the media, the family criticized the “sickening lies told about our son by the administration.”
“Alex is clearly not holding a gun when attacked by Trump’s murdering and cowardly ICE thugs. He has his phone in his right hand and his empty left hand is raised above his head while trying to protect the woman ICE just pushed down all while being pepper sprayed,” the statement said.
Saturday’s shooting prompted a wave of anger from local politicians, many of whom have been calling for the Trump Administration to bring an end to its immigration surge following weeks of violent encounters with Minnesotans, including the use of pepper spray and the arrest of peaceful protesters.
Minnesota Governor Tim Walz described the shooting as “sickening” and called on President Trump to end his immigration crackdown in the state.

Shooting in Minneapolis, Blames Local Leaders
DHS Secretary Kristi Noem held a press conference addressing a fatal ICE shooting in Minneapolis, outlining the federal government’s account of the incident and criticizing state and city leadership in its aftermath.
According to Noem, DHS law enforcement officers were conducting a targeted immigration operation Saturday morning when an individual approached Border Patrol agents with a handgun. She said agents attempted to disarm the suspect before firing defensive shots. The individual was pronounced dead at the scene.
Noem also addressed the protests that followed, alleging officers were assaulted and crowd-control measures were deployed. She placed blame on Minnesota Governor Tim Walz and Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey, accusing them of rhetoric she claims has increased tensions between law enforcement and the public.
State and local officials have disputed several of DHS’s claims. The incident remains under investigation.

“Minnesota”
Marsh Family adaptation of “San Francisco (Be Sure to Wear Some Flowers in Your Hair)”
We hope the good people of San Francisco won’t mind us adapting this iconic track (about their city in the sixties, in the midst of protests and the counterculture movement) to treat the tragedies in recent days and weeks in Minneapolis.
The original song was written by John Phillips (of “The Mamas & the Papas”) and first released (sung by Scott McKenzie) in 1967, reaching number one in the UK, Germany, Ireland, and New Zealand charts, though only fourth in the US.
We chose it because of its link to protest, its soaring refrains, its simplicity, its earnestness, and its celebration of love and solidarity. In our arrangement we haven’t double tracked the vocals but have added harmonies and mandolin/violin lines.
We hope it serves its aim, which is to express solidarity with the courageous and valiant protesters in Minnesota (and beyond), and to memorialise Renée Good and Alex Pretti, and sing their names across the ocean: two innocent American citizens executed on the streets in appalling scenes that so obviously echo waypoints in the historical march of fascism.
Taking on the guns, masks, fear, and falsehoods requires more than flowers and songs. But they are powerful nonetheless, especially if they remind folk of previous generations that navigated trauma, and that you are not alone, and others are being inspired by your courage and actions in the face of the winter of our times.

A Prayer for Our Soldiers | Anti-Trump Protest Song
Against Authoritarianism & Illegal Orders
“A Prayer for Our Soldiers” is a powerful gospel-inspired protest song that speaks directly to this dangerous political moment, calling out the misuse of American service members by authoritarian leaders and illegal commands from the current administration.
Blending reverence with resistance, the song is a solemn prayer for U.S. soldiers who may be sent unnecessarily, unjustly, or unlawfully into harm’s way—at home or abroad—by a power-hungry president and complicit Republicans in Congress.
Centered on the military oath to the Constitution rather than loyalty to any man, this song urges wisdom, courage, and moral clarity, reminding listeners that “just following orders” is no defense against injustice.
For viewers who oppose Trump, MAGA extremism, and the erosion of democratic norms, “A Prayer for Our Soldiers” is both a spiritual plea and a musical stand for the rule of law, civil liberties, and the soul of America.

Tim Walz says Trump administration is
“trying to twist reality” in Minnesota
Minnesota Governor Tim Walz says there’s a lot of skepticism in his state that the Trump administration will keep its word and draw down the presence of federal agents there. Two people have been shot dead by federal agents in Minneapolis in recent weeks.
Gov. Walz sat down with NPR’s All Things Considered host Juana Summers for an interview at the Minnesota State Capitol in St. Paul.
In their chat, he said the Trump administration was “trying to twist reality” about what is happening with peaceful protesters in Minnesota.
Walz also vowed not to “compromise with authoritarianism.” And he said the “final line of defense” for democracy “is the people.”

This High-Profile Defense Attorney Is Now
Representing A Woman Accusing Trump Of Rape
Donald Trump is accused in a federal lawsuit of raping the woman in the ’90s when she was 13 years old. He has repeatedly denied the allegations.
Mike Hayes and Tasneem Nashrulla
A high-profile defense attorney from Florida, Cheney Mason, is now representing “Jane Doe,” the plaintiff in a New York federal civil court case where she is accusing Donald Trump of raping her in the ‘90s when she was 13 years old, according to court documents filed Monday.
Mason, who is most well-known for his work as defense attorney to Casey Anthony — who was acquitted of murder charges in the death of her 2-year-old daughter who went missing in 2008 — filed a motion this week to represent Doe in the case along with New Jersey attorney Thomas Meagher.
The move to bring on Mason comes just weeks after the plaintiff filed an amended complaint that included a new witness in the case identified as “Joan Doe,” who says that the plaintiff told her about the alleged sexual contact with Trump and convicted pedophile Jeffrey Epstein in 1994–95.
On Friday, a 2005 hot mic conversation was released of Trump implying he sexually assaults women by grabbing them by the “pussy” and kissing them without their consent. The recording caused upheaval in the Republican Party, but Trump at Monday’s debate said he’s never sexually assaulted a woman.
Another witness, “Tiffany Doe,” submitted an affidavit in the case claiming that she allegedly witnessed Trump and Epstein rape the plaintiff multiple times. In her affidavit, she admits to acting as a “recruiter” hired by Epstein to attract young women to parties at his New York City apartment.
Jane Doe alleges that in the summer of 1994, she traveled to New York City by bus hoping to start her modeling career. Upon arriving, she says she met a woman named Tiffany who invited her to attend parties at Epstein’s, for which she would be paid.
Jane Doe claims in the suit that she had sexual contact with Trump at four different parties at Epstein’s and on the fourth and final encounter Trump “proceeded to forcibly rape her.” She also says that she had sexual contact with Epstein at two of the parties and on the second occasion he raped her.
Trump has repeatedly denied these allegations.
“I would say the same thing I’ve said a million times. The allegations are reckless, irresponsible and categorically untrue,” Trump attorney Alan Garten told BuzzFeed News. “To discuss them is unfair. This happened a long time ago. I don’t even want to get into it, because it gives credibility.”
This is the third time these allegations have been filed against Trump. The first time it was filed in California, the plaintiff filed the complaint anonymously and without counsel and the case was dismissed. The second time the case was filed, in New York, Meagher and his client withdrew the lawsuit without serving the defendants in the case.
On Friday, District Court Judge Ronnie Abrams ordered both sides to appear at an initial status hearing on Dec. 16, 2016, to discuss a case procedure, possible settlement conversations, and the estimated length of the trial.
“This case, based on the sworn declarations of the victim and two corroborating witnesses will be tried in court, where the defendants will be required to answer questions under oath and pursuant to the rules of evidence,” Mason told BuzzFeed News in a statement.
Asked if he wanted to comment on Mason coming on to represent the plaintiff, Garten said, “Nope, I don’t know him.”

Why Was Spy Chief Tulsi Gabbard at FBI Election
Raid in Georgia? Ex-DOJ Attorney Speaks Out
President Donald Trump has called to “nationalize” voting in the United States, alarming state leaders who oversee the process, as well as legal experts who say his takeover demand violates the Constitution.
This comes as Trump continues to falsely claim he won the 2020 election, with Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard overseeing an FBI raid last week to seize ballot boxes and other voting records in Fulton County, Georgia.
Gabbard, as spy chief, “has no statutory authority to be involved in a domestic election investigation,” says David Becker, director of the Center for Election Innovation & Research. He says that since the failed effort to overturn the results of the 2020 election, “an ecosystem of grift” has grown around Trump that profits from continuing to spread election denial even as courts have repeatedly thrown out their claims.

They said Trumpism was fading
Mainstream commentators said Donald Trump’s authoritarian campaign was exhausted. They were wrong.
As 2025 came to a close, mainstream liberal and centrist commentators were boldly declaring, often with visible relief, that Donald Trump’s authoritarian power grab had exhausted itself. The tide, they insisted, had finally turned in favor of American democracy and its resilient institutions.
That relief was premature. One month into 2026, Trump is striking back with the strength of a tsunami. The authoritarian tide is rising again — faster than before.

Attorney General Pam Bondi testified before the House Judiciary Committee on oversight of the Justice Department. Democrats and Republican Rep. Thomas Massie (KY) pressed her on her handling of the Epstein files — secret documents and other files related to the late convicted financier and sex offender Jeffrey Epstein — half of which recently became public.
She was grilled about President Trump’s and his administration’s ties to Epstein, why the names of co-conspirators were redacted but the names of survivors were unredacted, and why the Justice Department had not prosecuted anyone named in the files.
Some members of the committee, including Ranking Member Jamie Raskin (D-MD), accused Ms. Bondi of engaging in a cover-up. Several survivors were in attendance in the audience and responded nonverbally to questions from the committee.

The Sickening Image That Will Haunt Pam Bondi the Rest of Her Life
The attorney general’s congressional hearing was so bad, Fox didn’t even cover it. And it may not even have been the worst thing she did this week!

During and right after Pam Bondi’s House testimony Wednesday, I flipped on Fox News and Newsmax to see how they were covering it. I was expecting to see a celebration of how the attorney general really put those America-hating libs in their place. To my surprise, I did not. I saw mostly ads, to be honest, but the little programming I did catch was devoted entirely to the Nancy Guthrie kidnapping story.
Disappointed, I flipped back to MS NOW and didn’t think much of it. But Wednesday evening, The Daily Beast reported that my experience was not aberrational: Bondi testified for about five hours, and Fox News ran roughly 10 minutes of it live.

House Passes “Worst Voter Suppression Bill Ever”
in Latest Push to Help Trump Take Over Elections
The Republican-controlled House of Representatives voted on Wednesday to require proof of U.S. citizenship in the November midterm elections. If it becomes law, it would be the “worst voter suppression bill ever passed by Congress,” according to Ari Berman, national voting rights correspondent for Mother Jones. “The bill really combines a lot of the worst things that Republicans want to do with regards to voting, and it comes at a time when Trump appears dead set to try to interfere in the midterm elections,” he adds.
Wednesday’s vote sends the legislation on to the Republican-led Senate, where it is expected to receive a vote but unlikely to garner the 60-vote, filibuster-proof majority needed for passage.

Scott Galloway’s Brutal Take on the
“Epstein Class” – They’ve Damaged America
Business expert and podcaster Scott Galloway joins Jim Acosta to explain why the Epstein case isn’t just a scandal—it’s a mirror showing us exactly how American justice really works.
THE EPSTEIN CLASS:
Galloway uses a term that should become part of our vocabulary: “The Epstein Class.” Not billionaires. Not elites. The Epstein Class—those who are protected by the law but not bound by it, while the rest of us are bound by the law but not protected by it.
GALLOWAY’S CONTROVERSIAL TAKE:
Should the Epstein files have been released to the public? Galloway argues that dumping 3 million files to “millions of people with a ring light and an agenda” isn’t justice—it’s theater. What we needed: The FBI and DOJ going through files methodically, then communicating via grand jury indictments against people who committed actual crimes. Not gossiping about who attended which party.
